Unpair the display & pair a new phone

A Gantry Display connects to one phone at a time, though several phones can stay paired to it. To hand it to someone else for good, or start fresh on a new phone, reset its pairing so the QR code reappears — then scan it from the phone you want to use. Note that a reset unpairs every phone at once.

Nothing is lost: unpairing only resets the Bluetooth pairing. Your display's settings and firmware are untouched, and re-pairing takes seconds. If you change your mind partway through, just let go of the button — releasing early cancels the unpair and the display goes back to what it was showing.

  1. Hold the BOOT button on the display

    Find the BOOT button on the Gantry Display and press and hold it. Nothing happens for the first 3 seconds — that's deliberate, so a stray press doesn't unpair anything by accident. The display stays powered the whole time; you don't need to unplug anything.

  2. Keep holding through the countdown

    After 3 seconds, a full-screen countdown appears: a red warning icon, "Unpairing in", and a big number counting down from 5. Keep holding — about 8 seconds total — until it reaches zero. The display then resets its pairing and shows its pairing QR code again.

  3. Pair the display to your phone

    On the phone you want to use, open the Gantry app, go to the Display tab and choose Pair a display (it reads Pair a different display if this phone was paired before). Tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code on the display. After this first pairing, they reconnect automatically every time.

Display already connected to your old phone? You don't need the button at all — open the Gantry app on that phone, go to the Display tab, choose Forget this display, then pick Reset display (unpairs all phones). The QR code reappears, same as above. (The other choice, “Forget on this phone only”, deliberately leaves the display paired for any other drivers — it won't bring the QR back.) The button is the fallback that always works, e.g. when the old phone isn't around.
