Share one display between drivers

A Gantry Display isn't limited to one driver. Any number of phones can pair with it, and adding a new one doesn't disturb the phones already paired — everyone just scans the same display's QR code once.

One thing at a time: pairing a phone doesn't mean it's always connected. The display only holds one Bluetooth connection at a time — see "Who gets the display?" below for how that's decided each drive.

  1. Install the app on the new driver's phone

    The new driver installs the Gantry app and completes its setup. OBU pairing is done per phone in the app's Setup tab — that part is unrelated to the display and isn't covered on this page.

  2. Show the display's pairing QR again

    There are two ways to bring the QR code back up, depending on whether a phone is currently connected:

    No phone connected: briefly press the button on the display. The QR code appears for 60 seconds with a small countdown, and pressing the button again dismisses it early.

    A phone is already paired and connected: on that phone, go to the Display tab and choose Add another phone. The display shows its QR code and that phone steps aside so the new phone can connect. Keep that screen open until the new phone has finished pairing — closing it early lets the first phone reconnect, which ends the QR window.

  3. Scan it from the new driver's phone

    On the new driver's phone, open the Gantry app, go to the Display tab and choose Pair a display, then tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code on the display. That's a one-time scan — from then on, this phone reconnects automatically whenever it's the one using the display.

Who gets the display?

The display holds one Bluetooth connection at a time. The first paired phone to connect when you get in the car is the primary driver for that session — the display doesn't accept a second connection while it's held by another phone. Other paired phones simply wait; they connect automatically the next time the display is free — the next drive, or as soon as the primary phone disconnects or leaves.

Handing off without leaving the car

The primary driver can turn off Enable display connection in the app's Display tab. Their phone disconnects immediately and the display becomes free for the other phone to connect. Keep in mind: this switch stays off until you turn it back on — remember to re-enable it the next time you want the display.

Removing a driver. A phone can bow out on its own via the Display tab → Forget this display → Forget on this phone only — the other drivers keep working as normal. To revoke access for everyone at once, reset the display's pairing by holding its BOOT button for about 8 seconds until the QR code reappears; any remaining drivers then scan the new QR code once to re-pair.
